EAGLES Home Educators 13th Annual Science Fair

Your students are invited to participate in the 13th Annual Eagles Home Educators Science Fair. This has become a fall tradition and I hope you will join us this year either as a participant or to come out and see what other students in the area are learning about!  Students as young as 3 years old have participated in the past – and we usually have a very strong middle and high school turn out as well!

    Tuesday, October 15th

    Setup 9:30am – Starts at 10am

    Location:

    The Church at Winder

    The Refuge Youth Center
    559 Treadwell Road
    Bethlehem, GA 30620

Across the street from the church – look for the Eagles sign!

Very accessible from North Gwinnett.  Easy to get to via Hwy 316 (only a few miles off the hwy!)

Participation is free for Eagles members ($20 a year fee to join) or $5 per family to participate in just the Science Fair.

Students ages Pre K – 2 are judged and all given ribbons of participation. There will also be special judging categories. (all students will be recognized in this age group!) Older students, 3rd-12th grade, will compete in age groups (to be determined by number of sign-ups) and be given placement ribbons. Special Needs Judging Criteria will be used upon request. Some special awards will also be presented in these age categories. All students will receive their judging score sheets and goodie bags. Students 6th – 12th will have an overall 1-3rd ranking and rankings within their grade groups.  Grade groupings are determined by # of participants and grades.  Rarely do we combine more than 2 grades together.

    Project Requirements
**Must be presented in a presentation format (i.e. display board) The display board can not exceed 48″ height or width.
** Each project will be assigned a display space. The space is designed for all of a participant’s project material. The project material includes but is not limited to display board, journals, books, props, etc

** Must have been completed in this school calendar year.

** Participant must notify EAGLES if electricity will be needed for the display

**Each project must contain all of the following:

** A clearly stated topic/subject (visible on the presentation board)
** 1 or more experiments for the stated topic
** Highly suggested that experiments must be displayed either physical or in photo representation. (Or video)
    ** Experiment data log
** Hypothesis – clearly stated within the project
** A written report (typed or hand written)
** Result statement – clearly stated within the project
** It is highly suggested that projects contain written text in the students handwriting.
** All supplemental information must be presented in a neat binder format

    Pre K-2nd Grade

** A very simple report reflective of the student’s ability is not required but encouraged. This age group is not required to follow the scientific method.(but score higher when they do)  At this age an understanding of the topic and a display to help the student share that information with the judges is very helpful.

** This is a participation category, not competitive. All participants in this category will receive participation ribbons. This age group deserves a lot of practice and encouragement to help them prepare for the upper grades which are competitive. This category will still be judged so the students will receive constructive feedback for future fairs.

    3rd – 5th Grade
** Students should follow the scientific method ** This is a competitive category. These projects will be judged and awarded 1st, 2nd, 3rd and participation ribbons thereafter.
** Division of categories depends on number of entries for each grade.

    6th – 12th Grade
** Students should follow the scientific method ** This is a competitive category. These projects will be judged and awarded 1st, 2nd, 3rd and participation ribbons thereafter.
** Division of categories depends on number of entries for each grade.

RSVP’s are REQUIRED–  I will need to know

    • the age/grade of student,
    • complete spelling of child/children names
    • if any special needs judging may be necessary
    • if any electricity is needed

Deadline:  No later than October 11th
