The Montessori Method of education, developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, is a child-centered educational approach based on scientific observations of children from birth to adulthood. Dr. Montessori’s Method has been time tested, with over 100 years of success in diverse cultures throughout the world.

It is a view of the child as one who is naturally eager for knowledge and capable of initiating learning in a supportive, thoughtfully prepared learning environment. It is an approach that values the human spirit and the development of the whole child—physical, social, emotional, cognitive. ~ America Montessori Society

There are many ways to incorporate Montessori methods in your homeshooling.   Some  moms will take an online training course and set up a traditional Montessori classroom in their home (This can be very expensive!)  Others will make some Montessori materials, purchase some curriculum, and buy items that accomplish the same goal as the traditional materials and prepare the environment.  Still other families take parts of the Montessori approach and combine it with other homeschooling methods in an eclectic approach.

The Montessori Method is one that is a natural fit with the homeschooling family.  Especially if the more eclectic approach is taken.  It’s a child led approach where the teacher (Parent), the student (child) and the environment (your home) all are the teachers. It’s based on a multi-age approach that works well in the home.  The emphasis is on child-centered learning, independent work, and following the child’s interests.
